Steven Abbott Associates Helps Overturn Planning Refusal

Steven Abbott Associates (SAA) has obtained planning permission on appeal for a waste transfer station in Preesall, Poulton-le-Fylde.   The Clients are Mr Dean Bamber and Ms Kimberley Parker.

Retrospective permission was granted by the Planning Inspectorate for the change of use of a vacant building and adjacent land previously used as a timber sawmill to a waste transfer station -  allowing the applicant’s skip hire business to continue to operate on the site.

SAA was instructed following the initial refusal of the application by Lancashire County Council in February 2008 on the grounds that the development was of an industrial nature on a site which is located within the countryside as defined in the Wyre Borough Local Plan and was therefore inappropriate for the development.

With support from local residents and the local councillor, SAA prepared the appeal on the basis that the lawful use of the site as a sawmill would be far more intrusive to the area than the proposed change. In addition it was argued that the waste transfer station would have no detrimental impact on the amenities of the area or highway safety.

By allowing the appeal, the Inspector has enabled the business to continue on the site.  This lessens the distance the waste has to be transported within the locality.
